sisters and sunshine

28 Jul

Nothing better than a sunny day in western Wa!

Except maybe some fun with your sisters.

And can you believe these shoes?

Cracked us up!

Thanks for the fun sisters…even if the day didn’t turn out like we planned… I still had fun.
Love ya.

Today we hit up two surplus stores.
Not as awesome as last years surplus extravaganza but items were found and purchased at low prices.
One of the workers even recognized us from last year.
But why wouldn’t he…pretty sure we are the only 20 something surplus junkies they see.
Most are just middle aged men buying old computer monitors and confiscated pocket knives.
And right now I’m watching these ragamuffins.

May the Lord have mercy on me.

rain

26 Jul

Yesterday it rained.
Gretta registered for classes while I waited.
And then it rained some more.
Simply because I no longer live here I was able to appreciate it.
Otherwise, I’d be just as anxious for summer as everyone else.

24 Jul

Fun was had.
Babies were held.
S’mores were eaten (which might have something to do with today’s stuffy nose?).
Gossip magazines were read.
And skin is sunburnt.
I’d say that makes for one successful camping trip.

Obviously it was our first stop.
Molly Moon oh how I’ve missed you.
Cherry chunk AND brown sugar buttermilk ice cream…heaven in a cone AND pint.

And now I’m at my parents house waiting for my friends to come pick me up.
I’m going camping with the Lunstrum ladies.
This is nostalgia baby.
Camping at Lake Wenatchee with these ladies was the highlight of my summers in high school.
Things will look slightly different this year…husbands and babies are involved now.
We have grown up.
This boggles my mind…does anyone else still feel way younger than they are?

bright and early

21 Jul

Hey friends.
I meant to blog this week but time got away from me.
But thanks to technology I can post from the train station on my trusty iPhone.
Love the iPhone.
As you can see we are up bright and early this morning to catch the train to the airport.
Cause were going home for a visit!
I’m very excited.
Excited to camping, lounging with friends, hugging babies and a long awaited massage from my favorite spa!
I think that makes waking up at 4am worth it.
I think.
And even though I didn’t get to post this weeks meal plan…there was a meal plan with recipes that need to be shared with y’all.
So stay tuned for that.

Ok, love ya!
And if you wouldn’t mind…a quick prayer for health during this trip would be great.
I’ve had a sore throat for 2 days and thankfully it hasn’t gotten worse…but I’m going from 80 degree weather to 60 degree weather and I’m hoping that doesn’t do me in.
My body isn’t always a fan of change.
And being sick on vacation is the worst.
Peace out friends!

the local strangers

15 Jul

Yesterday we stopped in for a mocha chai and latte at Red Rock Coffee shop.
While waiting for our drinks I saw a poster for the band playing this week .

The Local Strangers Cover Art

Swoon
So guess what we did tonight?
We enjoyed a free concert by The Local Strangers.
And guess…what?
They put on a great show and are from Seattle!
I might have let out a shout when they said where they were from.
Go here and listen to Partner in Crime…super cute song…it was my favorite.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
I’ll be watching season 4 of Friday Night Lights…which I think might be the best season yet.
I love me some kids from the wrong side of town finding their potential and kicking butt!
Go East Dillion Lions!!

a blog of many tales

14 Jul

Good Lord…its been a whole week since I last posted.
Well…what should we talk about?
I guess we can start with this weeks menu plan…that makes perfect sense…it being Thursday and all.
Oh my.

BBQ chicken sandwiches w/ cucumber salad This BBQ chicken sandwich is a winner…don’t skimp on the garlic butter spread…its what makes it special! I prob wont make this particular cucumber salad recipe again. Just didn’t do it for me.
Lasagna Soup This recipe gets a 10! I loved it. The next day most of the liquid had been absorbed and it was like eating a whole new meal…pasta w/ sauce!
Asparagus roll ups w/ greek salad Not a fan of the roll ups…they were kinda soggy. Love the salad!
Parmesan chicken & lemon creme w/ steamed broccoli Husb loved this meal…it is a keeper.
Spicy shredded pork to share with our neighborhood group. I’ve made this dish multiple times for large parties and it never fails! It is time consuming tho!

Also, I had my eye on two desserts this week.
Strawberry creamwiches and caramel popcorn.
The strawberry creamwiches about killed me.
Have we talked about this before?
My body thinking it can’t handle sugar.
And reacting like a big baby with instant headaches, dizziness and food coma like behavior.
So totally lame when you have a major sweet tooth.
So what do I do?
Decide to be a big girl and throw out the delicious strawberry icing so as to not be tempted…
then make a batch of caramel popcorn.
It makes sense if you think about it.
Not to worry…I didn’t have as hard of a time with the caramel popcorn.
Don’t ask me why…especially since it has brown sugar, corn syrup and sweetened condensed milk as the three main ingredients.
Both desserts were tasty by the way.

On a different note…I got some fun mail today!

I’m still a big TBTL  fan and have been waiting forever for some sort of decal!
They finally read my mind.
It’s totally nerdy but I love it.

And since it’s the 14th I guess it’s safe to show you what we did on the 4th of July.

We spent the day driving to South Lake Tahoe!
It’s about a 4 hour drive…but we do road trips well so it was peaceful and romantic.
Most romanic when my husband takes me to Sonic and gets me a large Vanilla Coke!
Love him!
And while I’m braggin on his sweet self…let me tell you…sitting on the shore of a lake in the sun for 5 hours is not his favorite thing to do.
He likes to explore.
But he sat on that sandy lake beach with me and didn’t complain about being bored a single time.
Although, I have to admit, 5 hours is a long time.
And it was a little boring.
Thank goodness for people watching…and there were some good ones.
And for a great fireworks show.
And most of all for a great husband who loves me.
I think I’ll keep him 😉

You guys know I love Dolly!

on the menu

7 Jul

No specific order this week.
Tonight I’m making the hot links with carrot fries.
Tomorrow prob the steak and bruschetta.
I’ve been craving bruschetta for weeks because of the Julie and Julia movie.
That scene at the beginning with Julie and her husband eating that bruschetta…it’s burned into my brain!
It looked so stinkin good.
We shall see how mine turns out 😉
Also, any of you have the Julia Child french cookbook?
Do you use it?
I’m tempted to purchase it every time I watch that movie.
But there is no way I’m making duck or lobster…or those weird beef jello mold dishes.
Thoughts?

Also, sorry I’ve been MIA this week.
I’ve been in a not so glorious mood.
Thank Jesus for…well… Jesus.
And loved ones for prayer and wisdom.

Flatbread
(Thanks Esther! I’ve made this twice) w/ homemade crust (this crust rocks!) This meal gets a 10
Grilled Pork Chops w/ bruschetta This bruschetta is killer! I’ve made it twice already and we devour it!
Steak w/ braised brussel sprouts Another 10, although I add bacon to the sprouts
Watermelon Feta Arugala Salad inspired by her. Not a fan 😦
Hot links w/ Kraut and carrot fries You should know by now that I love these carrot fries!
French Toast w/ Berry butter Yum! My new go to french toast recipe.
